National Express Introduce Seat Reservation Charges
From Sunday 17 May 2009, an optional £2.50 seat reservation fee will apply to some seat reservations made on National Express East Coast (NXEC) or National Express East Anglia (NXEA) train services.
The fee applies when the customer chooses to make a seat reservation for their journey and holds or purchases a nonmandatory Standard Class ticket type (Anytime, Off-Peak, Super Off-Peak, Weekender etc.) or Rail Rover/Ranger product. Seat reservations made on these ticket types are optional for the customer and if they do not want to reserve a seat, there is no additional charge.
The £2.50 seat fee does not apply to First Class ticket holders, mandatory Advance fare ticket holders, season ticket holders*, customers with a Disabled Railcard, assisted passengers and Railway Staff using travel facilities. (* Please note: NXEA's existing policy of charging season ticket holders £1 for a reservation remains unchanged).
When a customer chooses to reserve a seat and holds one of the ticket types to which a reservation charge applies, the £2.50 seat fee should be charged per person, per journey leg on a NXEC/NXEA train, but only one seat fee should be charged when connecting between two National Express train services.
Please Note:
Travel Agents Systems are unable to charge for these fees at present, and National Express are currently in dialogue with Evolvi, the system behind RedfernOnlineRail, with an aim to reaching an agreeable solution over the coming weeks.
However, due to the short notice period, National Express have agreed that Redfern Travel can continue to offer seat reservations free of charge for bookings made via RedfernOnlineRail until such time as discussions between Evolvi and National Express are completed and a viable solution has been built into the system.
