East Midlands Trains Disruption

East Midlands Trains - Service Disruption 22/23 February 2010

East Midlands Trains services will be operating to a significantly reduced timetable on Monday 22 February due to a broken down train and associated track repairs between Market Harborough and Leicester. The reduced timetable will affect all services to/from London.

This follows the mechanical failure of a train from St. Pancras to Sheffield over the weekend at East Langton (north of Market Harborough) which blocked the line and has also resulted in damage to part of the track.

Full details of the timetable for Monday 22 February can be found at www.nationalrail.co.uk

In summary, arrangements are as follows:

Southbound services

  • xx.28 Nottingham to St. Pancras services shall run to the times advertised in the normal timetable as far as Leicester where they will follow a diversionary route, arriving up to 49 minutes later into London. These services will also call additionally at Kettering.
  •
  • xx.02 Nottingham to St. Pancras services will not run.
  •
  • xx.35 or xx.47 Sheffield to St. Pancras services will run to the times advertised in the normal timetable as far as Leicester where they will terminate. Passengers will need to transfer onto alternative services between Leicester and London.
  •
  • xx.27 Sheffield to St. Pancras services will run to the times advertised in the normal timetable as far as Derby, and will then follow a diversionary route. These services will not stop at Leicester, but will call additionally at Kettering and Corby. These trains are expected to take up to 60 minutes longer than normal.
  •
  • Corby to St. Pancras services will start from Kettering and run to the times advertised in the normal timetable to London.

Northbound services

  • xx.15 St. Pancras to Nottingham services will be diverted and will call at stations from Leicester up to 46 minutes later. These services will also call at Kettering.
  •
  • xx.30 Nottingham to St. Pancras services will be cancelled.
  •
  • xx.25 St. Pancras to Sheffield services will start from Leicester and then run to the times advertised in the normal timetable.
  •
  • xx.55 St. Pancras to Sheffield services will be diverted calling additionally at Kettering and Corby, and will not call at Leicester.
  •
  • St. Pancras to Corby services will run to the times advertised until Kettering where they will terminate.

As services on Monday 22 February will be significantly reduced from the normal timetable, passengers are advised that trains to and from London are expected to be extremely busy and passengers are advised to re-arrange their journeys where possible. Passengers choosing not to travel will be able to claim a full refund on their ticket, or will be able to use it to travel on a later date this week. Passengers already holding restricted tickets are advised that although ticket restrictions will not apply, they should travel as close to their booked time as possible. Normal ticket restrictions will apply for any tickets purchased on Monday 22 February.

East Midlands Trains tickets will also be accepted via alternative routes on East Coast, London Midland, Northern, Cross Country and Virgin West Coast services.

A revised timetable will also run on Tuesday 23 February and full details of this service will be advised later today, 22nd February.

East Midlands Trains would like to apologise to our customers for the impact the reduced level of service will have on their travel plans. They are working hard in partnership with Network Rail to ensure normal services are restored as soon as possible and we would like to thank customers for their patience and understanding.
